Once they get started, it's possible that they won't immediately become proficient in this new skill. Let’s deep dive into how our little ones take their first steps, when do babies walk in detail, and when we would need to step in for a little push. Read along to see some key tips we have prepared for you as Peekaboo.

How do babies learn to walk?

When your baby is between 9 and 12 months old, keep an eye out for these indicators that they will soon walk:

  • pulling oneself up to a standing position.
  • holding on to something and "cruising" while moving.
  • unable to find support.

Although some infants also crawl, walking is not always preceded by crawling. Some infants only commando crawl or move forward while lying on their stomachs. Others avoid crawling altogether or only crawl on their hands and knees. The capacity to pull oneself up to a complete stand on one's own is crucial. Just before infants begin walking independently, that significant milestone takes place.

How can I help my baby walk?

The following suggestions are for getting your baby to walk if they're having trouble getting there.

  • Lend a hand: Once your child is able to pull themselves up to standing, hold their hands to assist them in walking.
  • Use props: Push toys can be useful. Your child can use them for support as they pull up and move forward because they have four points on the floor, making them very steady, according to
  • Avoid baby walkers: Baby walkers are vehicles with wheels that you can sit your child inside so they can move around.
  • If you need to take a quick break, place your child in a play area they can't escape from, their crib, or a portable playard. The best thing to do is to get on all fours and scan the area for any dangers you need to block off because babies always find something to get into.

Please remember that every child is different, and so is their learning pace. Every child develops and grows at their own rate. Even if your child meets all the developmental milestones necessary to begin walking by the time they turn 18 months old, you should still consult your pediatrician. These achievements consist of:

  • Rolling over to both sides when they are around 4-6 months
  • Able to sit without any help within 6-7 months
  • Pulling to stand
  • Cruising
